75th Annual Flower Mart Shows Benefit of US-Ecuador Trade

Ecuadorian Growers and Exporters Showcase Superior Roses at the National Cathedral

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 5, 2014)- Thousands of residents and tourists of the Washington, D.C. area who attended this weekend’s 75th Annual Flower Mart at the National Cathedral, one of the capitol’s most beautiful longstanding traditions, were treated to a stunning arrangement of Ecuadorian roses. Today, one in four roses purchased in the U.S. come from Ecuador, and buyers of such roses are helping contribute to providing jobs, security, and empowerment of women in Ecuador.

Ecuadorian roses are considered the best in the world due to their incomparable quality and beauty, and unique characteristics: thick long stems, big buds and vivid colors. Ecuador is able to grow such high-quality and unique roses due to the country’s location by the equator and high altitude, which provide it with long hours of direct sunlight and high luminosity. Ecuador’s climate and soil conditions are also perfect for growing roses. Ecuador also offers the selection of rose varieties.

The Ecuadorian design invited the twenty thousand people who attended the Cathedral Flower Mart to experience firsthand the beauty of Ecuadorian flower production and invited participants plan a visit to experience Ecuador in person. The introduction to the design read:
